Ever Community Day Announced Via New Developer Blog

Having built two AR game communities, Niantic certainly knows this and is launching a new monthly event for Pokemon Go called Community Day. "Other bonuses will be in effect during the event, such as increased XP or Stardust, and Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours". Should trainers catch the unique creature before time's up, it will be able to acquire a special exclusive move that it wouldn't have been able to learn otherwise.

The company is no stranger to fostering a community around their AR games, either - their earlier creation Ingress sees regular "XM Anomaly" live competitive events which still attract a lot of interest from players and fans, and there's a series of #NL1331 events happening in Australia and New Zealand this month (head to ingress.com/events to find out more).

According to Niantic, a "special" Pokemon will pop up for a three hour window during the course of each Pokemon GO Community Day event. Niantic has stressed that in order to catch Surfing Pikachu, players must visit one of their local parks. In addition, there will be bonuses granted to all players during the few hours that the Pokemon is available to be caught.

Remember the disastrous Pokemon GO [Free] festival in Chicago previous year?

Asia-Pacific Region: 12:00 PM - 3 PM JST. The idea of this event is that players will all crowd together in communal spaces, in a short time window, and everyone will remember the community spirit of Pokemon from its opening weeks.

Americas and Greenland: 11 AM - 2 PM PST.

The first Community Day will take place on January 20th and it will star Pikachu. During the event, players will earn double XP. During the podcast, we mentioned how little sense hosting an event like this actually made, as Pokemon GO requires good cellular connectivity.
