With the additional points of interest, Epic wanted to make sure that loot was evenly spread out, so the event trees and treasure chests will be removed in the interest of this new update.

An exact date for the update was not given other than "next week", so stay tuned for more information about the patch and when it's due to drop.

As lead systems engineer Eric Williams explains in a new video posted on the game's YouTube channel, seen below, the biggest attraction of the new map will be a whole new city area for players to explore.

Furthermore, Williamson says that Fortnite's different "biomes" in Battle Royale have been divided up in a way to have them be more distinguishable from one another.

"Really, the different areas of the map feel more unique". "The swamp feels swampier, the mountains feel more mountainy", Williamson said. The map is getting new spots to shake things up on the current map. Williamson went on to discuss some quality-of-life improvements that are described as a "work-in-progress", but he failed to mention exactly what those updates will contain. More event-specific treasure chests are possible for future updates.

Battle Royale will get its first major update of 2018 next week.

With smaller additions of guns, items, and special modes coinciding with these weekly updates, the game has received a steady stream of content since its release.
