With no early upcoming big titles and the console war to be swaying towards Sony, Microsoft is hoping to bring some new hype for Xbox One with their most recent move for Xbox Live.

Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb has announced on his blog that the game is free to play for all Xbox Live Gold members, starting now and running all weekend long through Sunday, January 14, at 10:59 PM PDT. The aforementioned program starts today. Running from today, January 11, until January 14, all now subscribed Live Gold members will be able to download and enjoy the entirety of Halo 5: Guardians on their Xbox One's or Xbox One X's with no compromises.

If the story mode isn't your cup of tea, then you can instead plump for the multiplayer taster during the free trial, specifically the Arena and Warzone modes. To download the game, you'll need about 100-and something GB of free hard drive space and you can find it via the Xbox Store. The full versions of both the standard and deluxe versions of Halo 5: Guardians are on sale all weekend long, so you can get them at a discount. If you decide to buy it all your progress will be passed over, including your saved game, achievements, items and so on.

Halo 5: Guardians first released in October 2015 and was met with generally positive reviews.
