Dixons Carphone is looking for a new group finance director after it has announced that Humphrey Singer, the current incumbent, is set to leave the company to become CFO at Marks and Spencer.

Singer, who is now group finance director at electronics retailer Dixons Carpohone, will take up the position on a date to be confirmed.

Mr Singer has been finance boss of Dixons Carphone since its merger in 2014 and held the same position at Dixons Retail after working his way up from joining the business as Currys finance director in 2007.

The company said that Mr Singer would replace Helen Weir, whose departure was announced past year, not long after Archie Norman joined M&S as chairman. He started his career in the finance division of Cadbury Schweppes in 1987.

Sky News has learnt that M&S will announce Mr Singer's appointment on Wednesday, less than 24 hours before it updates the City on its Christmas trading performance.

Steve Rowe, M&S's chief executive, M&S, said: "As we embark on our five-year transformation programme, Humphrey will be a great addition to the top team".

"His experience as part of the team that led Dixons through its period of change and migration to multi-channel retailer is most relevant to what we are undertaking here", said Rowe.
