Michael Owen has suggested on Betvictor.com that Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez would not be an ideal replacement for Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright thinks his former side need a player like Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez and hope his performances will offset the seemingly inevitable departures of Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Mahrez has shaken off his transfer request last summer and performed admirably this season, having scored 7 goals in 22 appearances.

The Algerian was pivotal in Leicester's shock Premier League title win in 2016, scoring 18 times and scooping the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

The Reds are trying to bring forward their deal to sign Naby Keita but Klopp remains keen on Mahrez and the report says his agents have held talks with the Merseysiders about a move to Anfield.

The report claims that insiders in Mahrez's camp have informed them that the terms of a potential transfer to Anfield has been discussed with Liverpool FC chiefs.

The Algeria global has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as a possible replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who could make a January move to Manchester City.

He told Sky Sports: "It doesn't make me nervous, it's a big compliment to myself for the hard work I've put in so far, that Liverpool are willing to pay that much money".

It's thought Leicester would want around £50million for the former PFA Player of the Year victor.
