During the talks, which are the first to take place between the North and South in more than two years, South Korea's second vice-minister for tradition, sports activities and tourism brought up the possibility of combining the women's ice hockey team.

Host South Korea has earned a spot in figure skating's team event at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

North Korea has yet to comment on the South's offer, which is in the spirit of the original deal and even goes beyond it.

North Korea has offered to send athletes to PyeongChang, and the two sides are working on details of the North's participation, including a possible joint march at the opening ceremony.

The Torch-bearing opening ceremony took place on 16 December 2017 in Seoul, capital of South Korea, and countries from across the world were represented at the ceremony.

A senior South Korean official said on Friday that Seoul is seeking to form a joint women's ice hockey team with North Korea to participate in next month's Winter Olympics being hosted by the South.

However, the International Olympic Committee has said it will consider offering wildcards to North Korean athletes.

The women's ice hockey teams in the North and South aren't unfamiliar with each other. South Korea are grouped with Sweden, Switzerland and Japan in the women's tournament.
