The two sides have agreed that North Korea would send a delegation to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to reinstate the military hotline snapped by the North two years back and to hold military talks to defuse the military tension on the peninsula.

"I probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong-un", Trump said in an interview about the first year of his presidency with The Wall Street Journal newspaper. This offer comes on the heels of a landmark deal between the warring nations that allows North Korea to send a delegation of athletes, fans, and high-ranking government officials to the South for the upcoming Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Trump agreed, saying his country may also be open to talks with Pyongyang if conditions are met, Cheong Wa Dae said earlier.


The United States has authorized a multi-million-dollar sale of four anti-ballistic missiles to Japan, a step Washington says is aimed at countering North Korea's nuclear and missile threat.

"They will load them with a lot of fuel, some bombs, and tell the pilot, 'That is your target and you need to destroy it, '" he said.

The website said the activity was proof that North Korea was maintaining the site for future tests.

The retired deputy commander said Kim boasted suicide bombers would would kill themselves if it meant helping North Korea. Frankly, the only way out in terms of reducing tensions around the peninsula is going to be through the initiation of a dialogue process including the USA and North Korea.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, in a re-conciliatory New Year message in a televised address to the nation, had also said that North Korea was willing to hold high-level talks with the South.
