49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was arrested by Tuscaloosa, Ala. police on Friday for possession of marijuana, according to the Sheriff of Tuscaloosa County's website.

Tuscaloosa County deputies arrested Foster, who as of 10:15 p.m. was still listed as an inmate in the jail.

Foster, 23 years old, was the Niners' second of two first-round picks in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Foster started all 10 games he played in this season and posted 72 tackles, including 64 during the 49ers' final eight games. He was the highest-graded rookie linebacker this past season.

It's unclear what Foster was doing leading up to his arrest, although he did enter the National Football League with some red flags and character concerns. Prior to being chosen in the draft, he was dismissed from the NFL Scouting Combine, having gotten into a confrontation with a hospital worker. His urine sample was found to have been diluted, which was treated the same as a positive test.

Hopefully, for Foster's sake, it will wind up being little more than a young person's mistake.

Let's hope it's not much.
