Some of Trump's Biggest Supporters Rip Him Over DACA, Illegal Immigration Comments

A U.S. judge on Wednesday blocked President Donald Trump from ending an Obama-era programme that protected from deportation migrants who entered America illegally as children.

"We need the wall", he continued.

President Donald Trump speaks during a meeting with lawmakers on immigration policy in the Cabinet Room of the White House, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, in Washington. Democrats and Republicans left the meeting - much of which was conducted with reporters present - with different views of what kind of deal Trump would support.

Democrats still want to force action in Congress on a DACA plan by January 19, when a government funding plan runs out.

In a statement, White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders thanked the lawmakers on behalf of Trump and said the legislative proposal seeks to comply with the main priorities of the President for United States citizens.

San Francisco-based nonprofits like Immigrant Legal Resource Center are still deciding how to advise DACA recipients, known as Dreamers, on this ruling, spokesperson Kemi Bello says. It also would dramatically boost border security and immigration enforcement.

The Trump administration rejected a bipartisan Senate proposal to protect young undocumented immigrants from deportation, saying it needed more work.

The ruling means that the Trump administration must renew applications for so-called "Dreamers" - children brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents - who are protected from deportation under DACA.

The bill complies with the "Four Pillars" that emerged out of the meeting between Trump and a group of lawmakers at a meeting on Monday at the White House.

But Heitkamp, who was not in Thursday's meeting, said she didn't believe Trump's comments "blew up" the negotiations.

"Of course there's no deal", he said, claiming he'd made "a pretty big offer on my end" to let DACA recipients stay in the country and claiming that Democrats "have not offered anything legitimate in return".

One unanswered question touches hundreds of thousands of Texas residents: what to do about DACA, the Obama era program that keeps young immigrants brought into the country illegally from being deported. His office brought the case along with the University of California and other plaintiffs.

But Trump also added, "There are large areas where you don't need a wall". It is expected to demand border security in return for DACA.

Amid reports this week that special counsel Robert Mueller was preparing to possibly interview Mr Trump as part of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, the president was asked would he be willing to be interviewed.

A congressional aide told Reuters that negotiators in Congress also have been talking about legislation that would expand TPS in return for ending a visa lottery program that Republicans want to terminate.
