This was announced on Wednesday, January 10, by London-based film and television production company Showbizbee, which will be bringing the film to life.

According to SA blogger and entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, a United Kingdom film company Showbizbee, has acquired the film rights to the late superstar Brenda Fassie's life story.

Speaking to 702, he said auditions will be held for the entire cast of the film, including the role of Brenda.

Why are they auditioning for Brenda Fassie when there is literally ONE person who can do it?

"Open to all South Africans nationally".

A director by the name Edward W. Shaw is reportedly now working on the biopic which he will co-produce with Fassie's son Bongani. This initiative essentially will give the opportunity for any female across the country to apply for this challenging and honorable role for the movie, said Showbizbee.

"I love Brenda Fassie, I always say that she and Lebo Mathosa are two of the greatest musicians".

Asked if he has specific memories of his mother that he wanted to have included in the movie, Bongani said he was glad that his mother's story would finally be told through her son's eyes.

Bongani said he was excited to be part of the process.

"I am particularly eager to participate in the production, as co-executive producer, so that the real story of my mom comes alive to the people of South Africa and the world".

I definitely think Manaka Ranaka would kill the role of Brenda Fassie in the biopic. "We are highly enthused to have partnered with Edward W Shaw and team". Production is expected to start next month, while the film is planned to hit theatres next year.
