Two James Ward-Prowse goals looked to have set Southampton on their way to their first win in 10 league games, but Watford fought back in the second half as Andre Gray pulled one back before Doucoure's controversial goal late on.

It added to Mauricio Pellegrino's misery as his side's poor form continued, though Watford themselves have won just once over same period of Saints' top-flight winless streak.

Nine Premier League games without a win for Mauricio Pellegrino has seen the Argentine tipped as the next managerial casualty, but his side got off to the flawless start with James Ward-Prowse handing them some breathing space in the opening half.

The midfielder's first goal came in the 21st minute as his deft touch found the back of the net, after Shane Long found him with a low cross just inside the area.

But there was nobody there to save Silva's side when Long burst down the left to pick out Tadic, who in turn laid on a simple finish for Ward-Prowse.

A much-improved Watford started to show signs of life early in the second half and Richarlison had a shot blocked before finally they got their reward after 58 minutes.

Molla Wague then mistimed his jump when well positioned to connect with substitute Roberto Pereyra's delivery as Watford continued to turn the screw. Southampton's protestations to referee Roger East were lengthy but to no avail. They have recovered eight points from losing positions at Vicarage Road in the Premier League this season. Moyes is the fourth person to achieve this feat after Sir Alex Ferguson (528), Arsene Wenger (468) and Harry Redknapp (236).Mark Noble has now scored (35) or assisted (27) a total of 62 Premier League goals for West Ham - only Paolo di Canio (78) has had a hand in more goals for the club.Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Swansea City means they have now failed to win any of their last seven home Premier League games (D2 L5).
