Winfrey gave an impassioned speech Sunday night at the Golden Globes that has sparked talk about whether she might run for president.

Entertainment reporter Carly Mallenbaum (@ThatGirlCarly) talks about her view from the ballroom, where she heard Oprah Winfrey's soaring speech in person, a clear high point in the evening. We break down what's behind the polar temperatures that gripped the east coast over the weekend and the upcoming warm-up. In a town filled with women who call themselves feminists and liberals who claim to champion women, nobody - nobody - who witnessed his abusive behavior said a word.

"Some of Winfrey's confidants have been privately urging her to run", the article reads.

"I'll tell you, she's really a great woman".

To many of us it looked like yet another contrived attempt at a lot of pomp and circumstance void of any real credibility.

Even Trump's daughter Ivanka endorsed Oprah's message, if not a political future, in a tweet Monday. We lived in the blank white spaces at the edge of print.

Brosnahan emerged Best Actress in a Television Comedy Series for playing the protagonist, Miriam "Midge" Maisel in "The Marvelous Mrs Maisel", who admitted backstage that she had blanked out after saying "hi" to Winfrey in the middle of her acceptance speech.

But the co-hosts aren't convinced Oprah wants to run for President, as the announcing her decision to run would "polarise the country", according columnist Meghan McCain. Presenters and winners also didn't shy away from the issue, most notably in an emotional speech from Cecile B. Demille award-winner Oprah Winfrey that drew a standing ovation.

It's an event usually known for its colourful mix of gowns and frocks, but today the Golden Globes red carpet was about wearing black, welcoming special guests and calling out the gender pay gap.

She said: "I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon!"

Last fall Winfrey dismissed the notion of running for president.

A giant of Hollywood, the late George Burns, once famously said, "Sincerity - if you can fake that you've got it made".

"It came from such a pure instinctive place", she said on the podcast.

And he added the pro-Hillary Clinton hashtag #ImWithHer.

Meyers hosted the telecast but spent relatively little time onstage, where his barbs were reserved for the many Hollywood men brought down by sexual harassment and assault. When asked whether he'd ever consider a female running mate, Trump responded: "Well, I would consider, and as Chris [Matthews] can tell you, I threw out the name of a friend of mine, who I think the world of".

The 64-year-old media mogul has become a cultural phenomenon over the past 30-plus years, born into a poor home in MS but breaking through as a television news and talk show personality in the 1980s.
