Manchester City are prepared to risk missing out on Alexis Sanchez - possibly to Manchester United - rather than pay Arsenal's £35m asking price, reports BBC.

Malcolm has been lighting up Ligue 1 with Bordeaux, Youtube has a dedicated list of videos showing his fantastic dribbling skills and unstoppable long-range shots, that will surely get Arsenal fans tongues wagging.

It was perceived to be a tactic by Arsenal to coax City to make an higher offer in order to secure the player they have coveted for over a year, but Martinez's claim certainly suggests United's interest is very real indeed.

This could allow their North-London rivals to sign Malcom, as Arsenal are eyeing a potential replacement to Alexis Sanchez should he leave the Emirates this January.

Should he accept the £350,000-per-week offer, Sanchez would become one of the Premier League's highest paid players.

With his contract at Arsenal expiring in the summer, a move to Manchester City who were dealt a blow by Gabriel Jesus' injury, seemed to be wrapped up.

"Alexis is an exceptional football player, he's a world-class player and if that happens [and he leaves] we have to find a different balance in the team".

"Normally he would stay until the end of the season - but we'll see", said Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

City, who now sit a remarkable 15 points clear off second-placed United in the English top flight, are also just one game away from the Carabao Cup final and one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season. Conte has great admiration and respect for the attacker and that is what he expressed in his recent interview after the two teams played a goalless draw in the first leg of the League Cup at the Bridge.

"At the general level what I can say is myself and the Manchester United board, the owners, we don't believe a lot in the January market, we don't believe in signing a player just to sign a player, just to do something, we don't believe in that".

"If you look back at Man Utd's big signings over the decades, Cantona came out of the hat, [Robin] Van Persie was a surprise, and they both helped United win titles".

Mourinho has been quick to deny reports that he could walk away from United at the end of this season, and he was full of smiles at his press conference on Friday afternoon. "I've never questioned his commitment or attitude".
