BJP slams Congress for politicising SC's internal matter

Lokur and Kurian Joseph had addressed the media Friday.

He said it is surprising and BJP is pained that Congress which has been rejected number of times by people in elections is trying to gain political mileage. It has exposed itself, Mr Patra said.

He said, "We shall be failing in our national duty if we do not take of what they have said". He also expressed disappointment about the way Parliament is functioning. Supreme Court judges are saying the court is not in order.

The senior leader said the government ought to play its part in protecting democracy without interfering in the judiciary. BJP has in the past attributed Sinha's scathing criticism of the government to his being sidelined in the party with finance minister Arun Jaitley once dubbing him as a "job applicant at 80". "When four top judges are sharing their concern with the members of the media, how can this be an internal matter?" "They can't speak, as they fear losing their posts", he said. If the four senior judges have gone public then how is it a Supreme Court matter alone? Do you understand the meaning of this?

Sinha, however, insisted that it was for the apex court to sort out the crisis after the four senior judges virtually revolted against the CJI on Friday, raising questions on "selective" case allocation. "I had tweeted on the entire matter yesterday", he said.

Sinha explained the seriousness of the issues raised by the judges and said the allegation that sensitive cases were being assigned by the Chief Justice to particular benches was a "very serious" charge. "They do not either have the opportunity or the courage to express themselves".

"What the judges are hinting at is loud and clear".

Sinha also defended CPI leader D. Raja's visit to Justice Jasti Chelameswar's house. "If political parties, or anyone concerned about the future of democracy in the country, don't take note of this, we fail in our national duty".
