Friday morning the president defended himself, tweeting, "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used".

Trump's comments were allegedly made on Thursday at a White House meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform.

Maravi Post established that the US President made the controversial remarks on Thursday when he questioned why the US would accept any more immigrants from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa rather than from Norway.

Among other objections, Mr Trump said the plan did not provide proper funding for the proposed wall that he made a centre-piece of his election campaign. Trump had met with the Norwegian prime minister on Wednesday.

After President Trump proved once again that he thinks People of Color are less than by calling Haiti, El Salvador, and African nations "shitholes," CNN journalist Don Lemon refused to dance around the subject. "When it came to the issue of 'chain migration, ' I said to the president, 'Do you realize how painful that term is to so many people?' African Americans believe that they migrated to America in chains".

The New York Times first reported in December that Trump said Haitian immigrants "all have AIDS" during a summer 2017 meeting about immigration. The enormous damage that the 7.0-magnitude quake caused to the island's infrastructure and economy led to the designation for Haitians of a USA immigration protection known as Temporary Protected Status.

He did not say specifically what Trump said that caused him to respond, but his defense of American values make clear that the gist was Trump's stunning comments that drew wall-to-wall media coverage Friday.

"The so-called bipartisan Daca deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards", he said referring to the deferred action on childhood arrivals Bill that aims to give protection to "dreamers", undocumented immigrants who arrived to the USA as children. At that same meeting, he also complained that Nigerian immigrants who come to the United States would never want to "go back to their huts".

Adding "Botswana has accepted USA citizens within her border over the years and countries to host U.S. guests and senior government officials including a Congressional delegation that will come to Botswana at the end of this month".

"It's one thing to ask if he's a racist and that's OK, but the next thing is, since this continues to happen there needs to be something to dynamic, some kind of leverage", Ryan said. Her parents immigrated to the States when they were only children.

Mr Trump on Friday tweeted that his language he used at the private meeting with lawmakers to discuss immigration legislation had been "tough". "He's not a good president of America".
