She's the most streamed female artist of 2017, and every time we hear her name, New Rules starts playing in our heads.

Dua Lipa is leading the pack with five nominations for next month's BRIT Awards, while Ed Sheeran is up for four awards and J Hus and Rag'N'Bone Man each have three nods.

In the best British band category, the return of Damon Albarn's Gorillaz sees the animated outfit nominated alongside London Grammar, Wolf Alice, The xx and Royal Blood.

Former One Direction bandmates Liam Payne and Harry Styles will also compete against one another in the category, for their singles "Strip That Down" and "Sign of the Times" respectively.

Alicia Keys, Björk, Lorde, Pink and Taylor Swift are up for International Female, while Beck, Childish Gambino, DJ Khaled, Drake and Kendrick Lamar are nominated for International Male.

In the global categories, Bjork, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Drake, LCD Soundsystem, HAIM, Arcade Fire, Alice Wolf, The Killers, and Alicia Keys have been nominated.

The nominees were announced during a special live ITV show "The BRITs Are Coming", hosted by Emma Willis. "This is where I am from so it it's extra special". We all needed a break, it got a bit insane at one point.

Clean Bandit added: "We've been nominated, but never won anything".

He told the Press Association: "I'm really proud of British music as a whole at the moment".

At the ceremony to announce the nominations, Jorja Smith was also revealed as the victor of the 2018 critics' choice BRIT Award.

Other successful acts last year who failed to get recognised by the BRITs Voting Academy include Take That, Kasabian, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Rita Ora, while Decca's Michael Ball & Alfie Boe are expected to target categories at the Classic BRIT Awards later this year. "There's lots more to come in 2018 from all of us and I will do my best to make it another memorable year!"

Dua Lipa arrives for the Brit Awards at the O2 Arena in London February 22, 2017.
