Jose Mourinho issues ultimatum to Alexis Sanchez over Manchester United transfer

Arsenal's pre-match preparation for their match against Bournemouth was overshadowed by the news that Alexis Sanchez did not travel with them to the Vitality Stadium.

The Chile worldwide has refused to sign a new Arsenal contract with his current deal expiring in the summer, and United and City are reportedly both keen on recruiting him this month.

But Ferdinand reckons Sanchez's relationship with Pep Guardiola is another reason he should move to City.

Meanwhile, it's understood Mkhitaryan would be willing leave Old Trafford and has been linked with a return to his former club Borussia Dortmund in this window, but that move is likely to prove complicated given his salary demands.

"At the general level, what I can say is myself and the Manchester United board, and the owners, we don't believe a lot in the January market. We don't believe in signing a player just to do something", the United manager continued.

"Alexis is an exceptional football player, he's a world-class player and if that happens [and he leaves] we have to find a different balance in the team".

"But in relation to Alexis Sanchez, I don't say a word".

"The players have two choices: Follow what you (the media) say, or follow me".

Mourinho also claimed he now regards his bitter feud with Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte with "contempt".

English Premier League giants Manchester United are all set to break the bank and fend off competition from Real Madrid for Brazilian and PSG attacker Neymar this summer.

The 36-year-old made an incredible comeback from a serious knee injury, which kept him sidelined for seven months, but he has not featured since Boxing Day and Jose Mourinho admits the striker is "not totally happy" with his fitness. While Sanchez may be more of a finished product, I'm not entirely sure it's worth sanctioning a £250,000-a-week contract for Sanchez when Sane is performing so well. "We have been distracted a little bit by the cups but now we have to come back to the Premier League".

There is also the small matter of a trip to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of this month, before hosting Huddersfield Town at the start of February.

United will again be without the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Michael Carrick and Eric Bailly, while Ashley Young is still unavailable as the Englishman serves the final match of his three-game suspension.
