Manchester United On The Verge Of Signing Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has been left out of Arsenal's squad for the Premier League match against Bournemouth on Sunday, amid interest in the forward from Manchester City and Manchester United.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted Sanchez will leave his club this month, with the final decision on where he will end up now set to be handed over to the player and his advisers.

Although contrary to what has been said during the past few months, the Chilean winger is not likely to join City and instead could seal a move to United.

Manchester City and Liverpool are also in the race for Sanchez but United have the upper hand because they're prepared to meet Arsenal's demands.

"At the moment their need is perhaps less than Jose Mourinho's need and that probably shows you why Manchester United are so keen on bringing Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford".

"His situation is not completely decided one way or the other, so I left him at home". "He'll have the choice of a lot of clubs and, if United could get him, it would be a massive signing".

However, the former Borussia Dortmund player has since proven Mourinho's doubts to be well-founded and the two men clashed in November, prompting the manager to drop the player from his first-team.

Asked if a resolution was imminent, Wenger added: "Yes, but don't read too much into it because even I don't know what way it will go".

The rivalry with City, Sanchez's goalscoring record in the Premier League - 60 in 122 games - and the fact the fabled No.7 shirt is vacant at United all conspire to make the prospect of this deal irresistible to many Red Devils fans.

Then along came Manchester United, who were willing to better City's offer with a £35 million bid of their own or a part exchange involving Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
