Two Crude Bombs Found at Metro Construction Site in Mumbai

Explosives were found in Mumbai central area where excavation was underway for metro work.Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad (BDDS) was summoned and the explosives were retrieved from the debris.

Mumbai police's Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was called in, who defused both bombs.

The police said the squad found old firecrackers stuffed into a casing, but there was no detonator or metal shrapnel.

Mumbai Live received information in the night that parts of two old bombs were found in Mumbai Central, near the metro station construction, on December 10, 2018. "BDDS officers inspected the bomb and defused it", the senior officer said.

The explosives were buried in the ground near the Maratha Mandir cinema hall, The Indian Express reported. While one bomb exploded at the site during the excavation, the second bomb was defused.

Virendra Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone III, said the explosive was found buried a metre in the ground. "The explosive was found below those structures", he said.

After the necessary investigation, PSI Nilesh Shevale prepared a punchnama, seized the material and sent it to the forensic lab in Kalina for evaluation.
