Security forces on Saturday recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway, police said.

Official sources said that a Road Opening Party (ROP) of security forces noticed an IED planted on main road in the city outskirts. The official said the area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service.

Traffic movement on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway was disrupted after the explosive was found. "The engineering squad of the army then defused the bomb", Rajesh Kumar, Commanding Officer told ANI in an interview.

"The IED was defused by the bomb disposal squad without causing any damage", said the police.

Four policemen were killed in IED blast triggered by Jaish-e-Muhammad militants in Sopore area of north Kashmir last week.

He said the army men manning the naka signalled a vehicle to stop.
