The leader of Britain's anti-EU, anti-immigration UK Independence Party (UKIP) faced calls to resign on Sunday after his girlfriend reportedly made racist remarks about Prince Harry's fiancee Meghan Markle.

Bolton is the third elected leader of UKIP since Nigel Farage resigned after helping secure a vote to leave European Union in June 2016, and the party has struggled to find a role.

In the messages obtained by the Mail on Sunday, Jo Marney said Markle, an actress who is biracial, will "taint" the royal family.

Following the incident, Marney apologized for her comments and said that they were taken out of context.

Mr Bolton said that... "He must go, he must go quickly, he must go as quietly as possible".

Mr Bolton, whose relationship with Ms Marney is under investigation, has not commented on the messages, although he took to Twitter in the early hours of Sunday morning to deny other allegations about their relationship.

In messages to a friend, Miss Marney describes Meghan as "a scrubber" and a 'gender equality t***' who is a 'dumb little commoner... obsessed with race'.

Marney was suspended by Ukip after being alerted to the messages.

Peter Whittle, a UKIP member of the London Assembly, tweeted: "These are disgraceful remarks".

"If @_HenryBolton truly cares about @UKIP he will publicly call for Jo Marney removal from the party her words were blatantly racist and there should be no room for that in UKIP", the young party member said.

She added: "The opinions I expressed were deliberately exaggerated in order to make a point and have, to an extent, been taken out of context".

Bolton is set to face a crunch meeting over his future as Ukip's National Executive Committee will convene on Thursday to decide his fate.

"She has to go or he and @UKIP are doomed if we let this behaviour happen in the party", the teenage activist said.

Ms Marney also disclosed that she would never have sex with "a negro" because they are "ugly". Yet I fully recognise the offence they have caused.

Bolton's may also be suspended from Ukip following a series of investigations.
