The House of the Dead series is making a return to arcades, with a new Unreal Engine 4-developed game named House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.

There's nothing quite like a House of the Dead arcade game. An English version of House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn is basically a foregone conclusion and will make an excellent addition to any local arcade or Dave and Buster's.

If for any reason this House of the Dead game doesn't make it outside of Japan, we highly recommend that you check out the overlooked The House of the Dead: Overkill to feed your need for a House of the Dead shooter.

A preliminary location test will be held in Japan from January 19 to 21 at Sega Akihabara Building 3 in Tokyo, Japan. There's word yet from SEGA about whether we can expect this game to show up in the states. Not only will gamers sit in a fancy and appropriately themed "theater type enclosure", the cabinet will include "air cannon" and "vibrating seat" gimmicks to help players feel as if they are in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.

House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn will arrive in Japanese arcades starting next week, though no details have been confirmed at this time about a wider Japanese release (or Western release) for the cabinet just yet. The games make use of the light gun in arcades but can be played with controllers or mouse for the PC ports, move controllers on PS4 can also be utilized for the games released on the PlayStation. It's been nearly eight years since we've heard about a mainline House of the Dead release, so the thought of getting our hands on a brand new, flagship title is truly exciting.

Sega has launched an official website for the game, along with a number of screenshots, a few of which back up Sega's claim when you see just how many zombies you'll be up against.
