Fitton passed away from ovarian cancer four years ago and her dying wish was for her husband, Nigel Fitton, to keep in mind to water her plants.

It comes from London firefighter Antonia Nicol, who tweeted a hilarious but handsome story about her parents on Wednesday. "He's been religiously watering them & keeping them alive", Antonia Nicol wrote on Twitter.

He did such a good job in fact, that he thought they looked good enough to take to his new home when it was time to move, at which point he discovered they were actually made of plastic.

Her tweet since blew the heck up, clocking up more than 125,000 likes and appearing on dozens of viral news sites.

Nigel Fitton dutifully followed those instructions at his home in Johannesburg, South Africa, after Phedre Fitton died of ovarian cancer four years ago, CTV reports - watering the plants day after day.

Nicol said her parents met when they were 16 years old and were together ever since. "They worked together, travelled together and were never apart", she wrote.

"These amusing memories are all we have now".

It is undeniably attractive that his devotion and loyalty to her, even in the afterlife, propelled him to follow her instructions without thinking twice about it for so many years.

Antonia Nicol took to Twitter to share the touching story of her mum Phendre making her husband Nigel promise to look after her plants before she died in November 2013.

In subsequent tweets, Nicol had described her mother as "very funny" and "an absolute legend" with a "cheeky sense of humour".

"It's so lovely to hear my friends and family talking and remembering my mum again. She would have loved this so much". The tweet has garnered almost 130,000 likes and more than 38,000 retweets.

"They represent love and laughter and memories". That is a true labor of love.
