Ray Parlour: Arsenal's Giroud the answer for Chelsea

The Spain global arrived at Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid last summer and has struggled to impress in recent weeks. Since his goal against West Bromwich Albion on 18 November, the former Juventus striker has scored three goals in all competitions.

Giroud is now out with a hamstring injury and so far, he has only started one league game for the Gunners this season. However, with reports of a potential move to Borussia Dortmund, Parlour believes that Antonio Conte should try and buy Olivier Giroud.

"I'm amazed they're going for those sort of players", Parlour told Sky Sports' The Debate show.

The French forward has already been pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, and Arsenal have been linked with Dorussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was left out of the club's trip to face Hertha Berlin .

Chelsea have been linked with surprising moves for West Ham's Andy Carroll and Stoke City veteran Peter Crouch as the Premier League champions attempt to bolster their forward stocks.

"A little bit like Petr Cech, that's the only reason he went to Arsenal at the time because everything was settled in London and he wanted to stay in London".

Should Chelsea move for Giroud?

'It's staring Chelsea straight in the eye, ' Merson said.

Arsenal are 6th in the Premier League after 23 games and it looks highly likely that they will fail to finish in the top four.

"If they are looking for someone who is big and strong and can come on and change a game I don't see anybody better".

The Express reports that Giroud is earning £100,000-a-week at Arsenal.

And it has led to speculation that Chelsea could enter the January transfer market for a striker.
