Graham: Trump Is 'Absolutely Not' A Racist

Does President Trump even want a deal on DACA? Jonathan Swan got a copy of a memo from the immigration hawks in the White House explaining the few wee complaints they had with the Durbin/Graham proposal.

Trump took particular issue with the idea that people who'd fled to the U.S. after disasters hit their homes in places such as El Salvador, Guatemala and Haiti would be allowed to stay as part of the deal, according to the people briefed on the conversation.

Durbin was not in the 2013 White House meeting. Otherwise, why would Graham fear losing the ear of the president? Asked about chief of staff John Kelly specifically, Graham called him a good man but noted that he is a member of the staff, and added that some at the White House have "an irrational view". When Graham replied "no", CNN's Dana Bash pressed him on why he couldn't elaborate. I know where the bandwidth exists.

Durbin has asserted that Trump referred to certain African nations as "shithole countries" while discussing the deal at the White House.

"He's a street fighter", Graham concluded. "It's not the color of your skin that matters". Trump called the comments "disgraceful". Why don't we get more people from Norway?' " Durbin said.

Trump said in the meeting that he would prefer immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

"You can keep asking me all day long and I'll say the same thing", Graham responded. "I told him what I thought, and that's more important than anything else", Graham said.
