Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover on Saturday announced the market launch of its latest SUV model Range Rover Velar in India, priced between Rs. 78.83 lakh and Rs. 1.38 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

"Since the global reveal of Range Rover Velar, it has received an overwhelming interest in India from media, customers and Land Rover enthusiasts". The Range Rover Velar is positioned between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport, the company said in a statement.

The SUV will be sold in India as fully imported unit. Available in three powertrains, a 2.0L 4-cylinder 177bhp diesel, a 2.0L 4-cylinder 247bhp petrol, and a 3.0L V6 296bhp diesel, Range Rover Velar comes with torque-on-demand all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, Terrain Response 2 and All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) as standard.

Although the vehicle seen undergoing road tests was heavily camouflaged and even looked to have a seam where the rear doors would be, the front doors were so elongated it appears the seam at the back is either an attempt at subterfuge or the vehicle is an early test mule based on the current Range Rover.

Between the two screens, which are linked to allow occupants to move content between the two with a flick of a finger, almost every non-dynamic feature can be controlled.

Talking about sales of JLR cars in India 2017 he said: "Jaguar Land Rover exponentially grew its business (in India) by 49 per cent in 2017... and we hope to do better in 2018". Towards the end of previous year, Land Rover's chief designer told the UK's Auto Express magazine that a coupe version of its super-luxury Range Rover SUV was in the pipeline.
