University Grants Commission (UGC) will now select minority candidates for Maulana Azad National Fellowship 'on the basis of merit in National Eligibility Test (NET) of UGC conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and CSIR.' The revised guidelines of the Fellowship make NET mandatory for the candidates. In a short notification, the board has announced revision in exam pattern and eligibility criteria. This exam will be conducted for the post of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) & Eligibility for Assistant Professor. Candidates can check the details from the CBSE UGC NET Official Notification and other details from the CBSE official website, cbsenet.nic.in. Interested aspirants can apply for UGC NET examination from 6 March to 5 April 2018.

Last year, Board introduced few changes in the pattern of the exam but this year it has made drastic amendments.

- Instead of 3 papers, there will be only 2 papers - paper 1 and paper 2.


UGC NET Exam 2018 Paper-I, may consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions each carrying two marks. The duration of this paper will be one hour.

- Paper 2: It will be of 100 marks and will contain 100 objective type compulsory questions. However, all the candidates should have secured 55% marks in Master's degree program, in which they must have studied the chosen subject. The duration of the same will be two hours (11 am to 1 pm). Earlier, candidates above the age of 28 could not apply for JRF but now the limit has been changed to 30 years.

The exam will be conducted on July 8. The exam was conducted in 91 cities at 1700 exam centres. While the total marks for Paper 1 will be 100; it will be 200 for Paper 2.
