Dead, Multiple Injured In Kentucky High School Shooting

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office confirmed the shooting on Twitter.

One person was killed and several others have been injured in a shooting at a rural Kentucky high school, according to authorities.

Bevin said the shooting took place at Marshall County High School and the suspect was in custody.

Marshall County has a population of about 31,000 people. Lawson had no further details about the shooter or the extent of the injuries.

Marshall County is about 23 miles south of Paducah and about 150 miles north of Nashville. She told The Associated Press in a Facebook message: "You just never think this will happen in a small town like ours".


Students are being bussed to North Marshall Middle School.

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., tweeted condolences: "My thoughts & prayers go out to the students & faculty at Marshall County High School where there has been a tragic school shooting", Comer said.

"One confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded", Bevin tweeted.

The FBI says it's working with state and local law enforcement in responding to the shooting. "Suspect in custody. More information to come", it wrote.
