"I did have a good source yesterday tell me as of yesterday that she was doing very well considering she had been shot a couple of times", Ellis County Commissioner Paul Perry said.

"I'm sure there'll be some adjustments of security at the high school", Perry said. Police say the victim is hospitalized. A student, Cassie Shook, 17, told the Associated Press that the shooting was avoidable as the girl had complained about the suspect to the vice principal on two separate occasions, but nothing was done.

"This is a trying time for our community and our school", he said.

Then past year, she says the boy got angry during a class and threw a pair of scissors at a different girl. Shook says police came to talk to the class.

One student has been confirmed dead and at least five students were shot Tuesday morning at a high school in Kentucky. Authorities have not named the victim or the suspect in that shooting, reports NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. Officials confirmed in a news conference that the suspect was a student, and he left the school building immediately after firing shots in the cafeteria.

The injured girl, whose name was not released, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. The teen fled the cafeteria after the confrontation with a staffer but was arrested by law enforcement on school grounds.

The handgun was recovered at the scene, officials said. He also says he doesn't yet know what charges the suspect might face.

Counselors will be available at the school for students when they return Tuesday morning. Her condition is not known.
