The Academy Awards are announced in March.

Robbie is up against Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) and Meryl Streep (The Post).

Radiant in white Michael Lo Sordo at the Australian premiere of I, Tonya, of which she is both the title character and producer with husband Tom Ackerley, 27-year-old Margot tells marie claire she's committed to using her star wattage to shine a light on the Time's Up movement.

"It was an fantastic experience, " I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie and fellow Australian said of working with Robbie. Supplied by Roadshow Films.

At yesterday's breakfast panel ahead of the awards, she candidly told the crowd she loved the I, Tonya script before even realising it was a true story.

"It was the most flawless scenario to hear such exciting news - right after my friends and family had all seen the film". "It's going to take a long time, but I think the louder the conversations are, the closer we come to achieving 50/50".

Last night the Gold Coast native hopped straight off a plane from the Screen Actors Guild Awards to attend the Sydney premiere of I, Tonya, telling World Health Organization "I'm running off adrenaline, I'm so excited".

But the recognition of a nomination for the film industry's highest honour is already a win for Robbie.

She said that ultimately she believed the film would provide some closure for Harding. "I'll be happy if nothing else happens again in my lifetime".
