Noted Kannada actor Chandrashekhar popularly known as 'Edakallu Guddada Mele' Chandrashekhar, 63, passed away in the wee hours of Saturday in Canada.

He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Chandrashekhar spent the majority of his life in Canada following his marriage to dancer Sheela in 1984.

Chandrashekhar shot to fame with the 1973 film Edakallu Guddada Mele, and it was so popular that "Edakallu" has been stuck to his name. He also shared screen space with many legendary actors of Kannada cinema, including Dr Rajukumar and Vishuvardhan.

Chandrashekhar was spotted by the late Nagendra Rao and Vadiraj and was cast as a child artiste in their Kannada movie 1969 Namma Makkalu. The first lead role which put him in the spotlight was Puttanna Kanaga's Edakallu Guddada Mele - so much so that he began to be called Edakallu Guddadamele Chandrashekhar due to the film's success. But he returned to the industry in the year 2004 again and directed and acted in Poorvapara.

Chandrashekhar was last seen in Raju Kannada Medium, which released last week.

The veteran actor has acted in over 60 films, and was last seen in 3 Gante 30 Dina 30 second, which released this month.

Kannada film personalities and other high-profile people including Kannada Chef Minister Siddaramaiah, condoled the death of Chandrashekhar.

As his sheer hardwork goes Chandrashekhar has worked in nearly 60 films in his lifetime and chose each and every one of those roles very carefully.
