Trump Jr: Nunes' Memo 'a Little Bit of Sweet Revenge'

Both Nunes and the White House have rejected allegations that they collaborated on the crafting of the memo, suspicions that several top Democrats have raised.

White House spokesman Raj Shah said Monday that if the committee sends the Democratic memo to the White House, officials "will consider it along the same lines" as they did the Nunes memo.

Schiff told reporters he thought that Republicans felt they had to vote to release the Democratic memo after blocking it last week - adding that he thought it would also be very hard for the White House to object to its release. The Democratic memo will show the extent of other information about Mr Page that was provided to the court in the warrant application, he said.

Nunes declined to comment after the closed-door meeting.

Democrats and social media users, however, were quick to dismiss the president's claim that the memo absolved him of accusations of collusion with Russian Federation that have continued to plague his administration during his first year in office. "[There] was no Collusion and there was no Obstruction".

The problem with the approval of the application, the memo alleges, is that Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ officials did not explain to a FISC judge that they were seeking to expand a warrant to surveil Page based on information collected in a dossier compiled by investigator Christopher Steele.

Schiff has said he's anxious Trump would use the memo to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is accused of extending a surveillance warrant based on a largely unverified dossier connecting Trump and Russian Federation. Schiff has said he has given his memo to the Justice Department for review.

"Having chose to cherry-pick, the Nunes team picked a bunch of the wrong cherries for its own narrative", Matthew Waxman, a Columbia University law professor and former Bush administration official, wrote in an email.

Schiff has slammed the release of a congressional memo that alleges FBI surveillance abuses in an investigation into the Trump campaign's Russian Federation ties.

Trump has railed against leaks during his first year in office.

This is "a shameful effort to discredit the DOJ and FBI, undermine the Special Council's ongoing investigation, and undercut congressional probes", said the committee's ranking member Adam Schiff.

When asked whether the memo did indeed support Trump's position, another top Democrat, Sen.

It is not the only time Trump has used the term to describe a member of his own party.

"To say that that's the end of the investigation, that this is all that Donald Trump needs to fire (Deputy Attorney General Rod) Rosenstein or to fire (special counsel Robert) Mueller, I'll just tell you, this could precipitate a constitutional crisis", Durbin told CNN. It'd be a civic disaster if the president was allowed to wreck public faith in the Justice Department on false pretenses, when evidence of what really happened in the FISA Court is readily available.

"So to the extent the memo deals with the dossier and the FISA process, the dossier has nothing to do with the meeting at Trump Tower", Gowdy said in an interview to air Sunday on CBS' "Face The Nation".

"We do have other options in which we can seek to make it public, but I would think that the White House would be very hard-pressed, after saying the want the Republican memo to come out in the interest of full transparency, to then censor the Democratic memo", Schiff said.
