Central wide receiver Justyn Ross chooses Clemson

The No. 1 prospect in Alabama skipped over not one, but two in-state schools that he has former teammates at for Clemson.

Four-star Phenix City receiver Justyn Ross, the consensus top prospect in the state, announced today on ESPN2 that he would spurn in-state powers Alabama and Auburn and verbally committed to sign with Clemson. He's the second wide receiver in Clemson's 2018 recruiting class joining December signee Derion Kendrick.

Clemson scored high on National Signing Day with the pick up of Ross and now, for the next three seasons, you have yet another dynamic playmaker to add to your group of skilled wide receivers.

"It was the best environment I've ever been in for a game".

"When I was up there, it just felt like family", Ross said. That means a lot to me. As I've seen Coach (Jeff) Scott, he develops players to go to the league. "I have a good relationship with them too, but it's all about my future". He uses his size to go up and make plays, but he can also make a cut on a slant and leave a defender in his dust, which shows in his ability as a returner as well. "He started to make plays against guys like John Broussard, who is at Auburn now".

Ross spoke with Swinney Tuesday night, but it was before he decided where he'd sign and was looking forward to speaking with his new coach again Wednesday.

He's the No. 1-rated player in the state of Alabama.

Clemson returns Hunter Renfrow (602 yards), Tee Higgins (345), Diondre Overton (178) and Amari Rodgers (123) at the position.

Depth chart fit: Standing at 6-foot-4, Ross is an ideal fit for the boundary/9-man receiver, and with Deon Cain moving on, the opportunity is there for some meaningful playing time.
