Olympics, a division of NBC Sports Group, has selected ChyronHego's Lyric graphics creation and playout solution, Live Compositor, and PRIME Clips for its production of the 28th Winter Olympics, which take place in PyeongChang, South Korea from February 8-25. Voice, video, and data will stream over AT&T's network, notes Christopher Connolly, senior director of transmission engineering and operations for NBC Olympics, highlighting that company's secure transport and operational support.

Olympics will use Harmonic solutions for a variety of production applications, including broadcast, on-demand, digital, news operations and long-term archive.

"Once again, ChyronHego has the great honor of providing state-of-the-art technology for NBC Olympics' production of the 2018 Winter Games", says Lopez. It also will help accelerate transfers between a number of interconnected Winter Games sites and event venues. In less than a minute, high-res content created on the PyeongChang MediaGrid system can be replicated on the Stamford MediaGrid system for immediate use in streaming, VOD and traditional broadcast editing.

FileCatalyst Direct will now allow operators to edit transfers that are ongoing, even if there are hundreds of concurrent transfers taking place.

NBC* paid $963 million for the rights to air the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, a 24 percent jump over the $775 million it paid for the last Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. "Year after year, FileCatalyst rises to the challenge of transferring our media assets enabling our many workflows, and they continue to deliver new features that provide real value and maximize our efficiency". Live coverage on NBCSN opposite the NBC broadcast was also a first.
