LG 'Judy' flagship coming in June, could kill off the G Series

Or as it pertains to LG, around the block and down the road a piece.

A device, codenamed Judy, will arrive this summer as the successor to last year's LG G6, according to a Venture Beat report.

LG's "Judy" phone will have a bigger display than the G6 (shown above) and faster hardware. The phone will offer protection against the elements like dust and moisture, with an IP68 rating, and could even produce some incredible sound with its dual speaker setup.

Whereas the G6 sports a 5.7-inch display with a 2880x1440 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, Judy's display is getting stretched out to 6.1 inches. LG is looking to incorporate a new display type in the smartphone, dubbed as MLCD+. It will be one of the brightest smartphone displays with 800-nit brightness and will consume 35% less power than a standard IPS LCD display.

High dynamic range imaging? There other metrics involved in VESA's certification, but if going by brightness alone, Judy would fall squarely between DisplayHDR 600 and DisplayHDR 1000.

Since the G6 was unwrapped at MWC a year ago, you might expect LG to unveil the G7 at the end of this month in Barcelona, but you'd be wrong. And the chipset will be coupled to just 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is underwhelming, but there might be a Plus model with increased storage and RAM though. LG does optics on its smartphone family very well and you can expect dual-cameras at the back with a very wide F/1.6 aperture. As of now, there is no information about the front-facing camera. Apparently, it is not going to be called the LG G7, since the company is planning a name branding overhaul.

Other than that, the phone will have IP68 water and dust resistant properties, HDR 10 support, wireless charging, digital assistant, and new Artificial Intelligence features.

There's no mention of price, though being a flagship, we suspect it cost north of $650.
