President Donald Trump met with survivors of the Parkland, Florida high school shooting on Friday, before heading to his Mar-a-Lago resort for a disco-themed party.

President Donald Trump opted not to golf at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday despite the lovely weather, citing respect for the victims of the Florida school shooting.

The community in northern Broward County is about 40 miles from Mar-a-Lago.

The weather in Palm Beach was sunny with a high of 80 degrees. Mar-a-Lago is only about half an hour from the site of the Parkland school shooting, and memorial services continue. He also thanked the medical staff who are caring for the recovering students. They also stopped at the Broward County Sheriff's Office. "It's very sad that something like that could happen".

"That was so modest, I would have told it much differently", Trump to the officer.

"He praised emergency responders for what he called a "record-setting" response to the shooting".

Trump said that the work the doctor's and nurses did was "incredible", but still failed to make any mention of gun control, despite the mass debate swirling around the topic since 14 school children and 3 teachers were killed in another school shooting.

An Instagram user posted a photo with the president in the background from the party.

The president and first lady Melania Trump were in town earlier this month.
