The 90th Oscars: The Visuals of 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

J.J. Abrams has slammed the Star Wars fans who disliked the focus on female characters in The Last Jedi.

Taking over from J.J. Abrams (Star Trek Into Darkness), filmmaker Rian Johnson (Looper) made his contribution to the Star Wars franchise by writing and directing The Last Jedi.

The studio has also revealed details of the bonus features that fans can enjoy. Now families can bring home the movie digitally in HD and 4K Ultra HD™ and via Movies Anywhere on March 13, two weeks before the 4K Ultra HD™ Blu-ray, and Blu-ray™ disc on March 27.

Officially confirmed today, the home release of The Last Jedi will include over two hours of bonus footage, including a feature-length documentary called The Director and the Jedi, promising an " intimate and personal journey" that follows Rian Johnson during the production of the movie.

The movie will be available in both 4K and HD, and there will different retailer exclusive versions.

As we march toward the 90th Academy Awards on March 4th, here's a closer look at some of the biggest effects sequences created for the movie - many of which are a blend of practical and CG effects - including light saber battles, the villainous Snoke, and brand-new spacecraft such as Dreadnaught, the mothership of the First Order. Debuting last December, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" opened with a $220M weekend before making over $618M domestically.

Snoke and Mirrors: Motion capture and Star Wars collide as the filmmakers take us through the detailed process of creating the movie's malevolent master villain.

Lucasfilm isn't saying what will be included, but, in interviews previous year, director Rian Johnson said the original cut was well over three hours.

On top of that, there'll be a whopping 14 deleted scenes from the film, complete with optional commentary from Johnson.
