White House: Trump Wants 'Active Shooter Drills' Renamed to Be Less Frightening

Trump conducted a listening session at the White House with students and parents affected by the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, expressing sympathy to relatives and friends of victims.

President Trump did clarify those statements during a meeting with state and school leaders about school safety.

"We want gun reform".

Besides considering concealed carrying of weapons by trained school employees, a concept he has endorsed in the past, he said he planned to go "very strongly into age, age of purchase". This is a long-term situation that we have to solve.

"We don't need to put guns in the hands of teachers", said Robert Runcie, the superintendent of Broward County Public Schools.

The president said he has talked to lawmakers in recent days about gun violence, saying those members are "into doing background checks that maybe they wouldn't be thinking about" before the Parkland, Florida, school shooting.

"I'm saying that the problems we are facing here today can not be solved by gun laws alone", Rubio said, adding he supported legislation to raise the minimum age to purchase a gun, ban bump stocks and change the background check system. What can we do to help you feel safe?" and "5.

"The time for political correctness is over", said Trump. "I think it's very hard on children". "When you say this school is gun free. that's what they want to hear".

President Donald Trump has said that in order to prevent the mass shootings, he is going to consider a solution to arm the school teachers.

"I'm the biggest believer of the Second Amendment that there is - okay - I am the biggest", the President said. And I don't understand why I can still go in a store and buy a weapon of war. Trump listened to all of the participants. So let's say you had 20 percent of your teaching force, because that's pretty much the number - and you said it - an attack has lasted, on average, about three minutes. "We have to get smart on gun-free zones". "The NRA wants to do the right thing". Does anybody have an idea as to how to stop it? Kurth asked at a CNN "town hall" Wednesday about gun violence.

Trump's tweets come amid a growing call for stricter gun laws from school shooting survivors and parents whose children were murdered in shootings.

His idea is already being responded to all over.

He was briefed by White House officials before participating in the listening and did not use a teleprompter during the event. But, the arm-the-teachers idea appears to be a hypothetical idea. He said if the coach possessed a firearm in his locker while he ran at the shooter, things would have turnout very different. But if he had a firearm, he wouldn't have had to run; he would have shot and that would have been the end of it.

Mr Trump a year ago blocked an Obama-era rule that would have prevented an estimated 75,000 people with mental disorders from buying guns. "It is called concealed carry, where a teacher would have a concealed gun on them", said the president. And what I'd recommend doing is the people that do carry, we give them a bonus. "Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks!" the President said.
