Celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday with these Seuss-inspired treats

Calling himself Seuss Tanoos, Superintendent Danny Tanoos dressed up as the Cat in the Hat, along with Mayor Duke Bennett as Sam I Am, to celebrate the occasion in 2017.

West read a book every day over the intercom as part of Read Across America.

According to the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE), more than 36 million adults in America can not read or write at the most basic level and 60 million Americans lack the credentials and skills to succeed in postsecondary education.

"They really like the scavenger hunt", Meeks said.

The goal was to get students excited about reading. With tons of wild rhyming that is classic Seussical goodness, the kids watch helplessly as havoc is wrecked upon their home by all sorts of things the cat produces, including Thing One and Thing Two. "They're fun and they have a message".


Eighth-grader Justin Abney said that previous year, the first-graders made him extra nervous. "But this year I read to the third-graders, and it went much better", he said.

This week I had the opportunity to visit with the students of the Friends Association for Children. Elementary teachers also enjoyed catching up with students and hearing how they've grown since they attended White Hall Elementary. Most of these books lacked a plot and weren't exciting to read. She also offered pointers on public speaking such as facing the audience, holding the books for the students to see, and taking their time reading.

The Big Read brings the community together around one book each year.

Children participated in various activities at Mentor Public Library for Read Across America Day on March 2. Most of us remember sitting down with our parents and immersing ourselves into Dr. Seuss' imaginative stories.

Her 10-year-old daughter, Mumbi, loves reading mystery books that keep her turning the pages.
