He also revealed details of the plot, saying that Elio (Timothee Chalamet) and Oliver (Armie Hammer) will return for a second installment - which is good news for those who were left bereft by the film's ending.

On the red carpet at this weekend's Oscars, Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino was briefly asked about the planned sequels to the break-out hit of 2017.

We haven't seen the last of Oliver and Elio, and thank God for that.

"I'm already conceiving the story with André Aciman, and it's gonna happen five or six years afterwards..."

The Oscar-winning film (it picked up three nominations and one win at this year's ceremony) will be getting at least two more movies, each featuring characters at different times in their lives.

Guadagnino went on to say that he would have to finalise the script before it was known when and where filming would begin.

However, he was hopeful that the sequel would be more global than the original, hinting at some travelling for the pair.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter he said the new era for the movie will see the topic of the HIV/Aids crisis tackled.

It's official: Call Me By Your Name will get a sequel.

"Maybe it's not a question of sequel, it's a question of chronicling everyone in this film".

The movie was nominated for best picture and though it missed out to The Shape Of Water, it pick up best adapted screenplay has been held in such high acclaim fans have been buzzing about the idea of a sequel.
