The Viacom-owned kids-media outlet will instead revive Blue, the animated hound who used to leave problem-solving hints for years on "Blue's Clues", a seminal series for preschoolers that helped fuel growth at Nickelodeon in a different era.

Viacom's top-rated kids' network, whose ratings have faltered recently amid heightened competition for junior eyeballs, said it will deliver more than 800 new episodes of new and returning shows in 2018-2019, a 20% increase over past year.

"We are deepening audience engagement through short-form content and expanding our ability to be everywhere kids are", said Cyma Zarghami, president of the Nickelodeon Group. The 2D-animated Pony is the first series greenlit for the U.S.by Nickelodeon International. "The format of the show works pretty well, and I don't think they are going to mess with it that much".

The series became so popular that it drew nationwide attention when Burns retired from his hosting duties in 2002 and was replaced with Donovan Patton, according to Variety. A spin-off, "Blue's Room", centered on the canine character, ran between 2004 and 2007. Each episode found the titular dog escaping into a story and leaving behind clues so that audiences could figure out what activity Blue wanted to do.

The groundbreaking late-'90s preschool series Blue's Clues is getting a refresh for which will introduce the beloved character to the next generation. As previously announced, the WWE star is voicing a villain named Baron Draxum on the new animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Nickelodeon is looking for someone who "will empower the home viewer to feel important, respected, and smart".

Nickelodeon executives revealed that the choice to bring back Blue's Clues was based on the company's desire to keep kids engaged and tuned into their shows again. Blue will supposedly look more three-dimensional and be "even furrier and more huggable". And the show will have 30 seconds to 60 seconds shorter to accommodate advertising and network promos.
