A special sitting of the Dail has been arranged for today because most ministers will be overseas for global St Patrick's Day events next week.

It is hoped the debate will be completed at the next allocated time on Tuesday, March 20, when the Dáil is due to sit until midnight.

There is cross-party support for the debate to reach the second stage as soon as possible, when it will go to the Seanad for debate and a vote.

"The Minister for Health and the government are to be commended for the expansive framework set out here".

The wording for what will replace the Eighth Amendment if the upcoming referendum passes has been agreed on.

Health Minister Simon Harris will kickstart the debate on the bill that would allow a referendum on the 8th amendment.

The bill lays out the framework for the referendum, which will ask people whether they want to retain the Eighth Amendment or delete it from the Constitution and insert the following wording: "That provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancy".

Mr McGrath said a poll of Global Positioning System had found that that two-thirds of those asked had said they would refuse to comply with the Government's proposals on abortion services. The period will begin to elapse from when the woman first contacts her GP or health practitioner.

Medical practitioners will also have a contentious objection, so if they do not feel comfortable allowing abortions they will not have to.

"Women like Savita Halappanavar who never even got to tell her story in relation to her pregnancy".

The initial judgment involved an immigration case where a Nigerian man attempted to revoke a 2008 deportation order in proceedings initiated eight years later on the grounds that his Irish partner was at that time pregnant with their child, according to Reuters.

On Friday the Irish government will formally establish a referendum commission, chaired by Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy, which will provide unbiased information to the public about the issue.
