Andrew Norwell to sign with Jaguars

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Norwell intends to sign not with the Giants, 49ers or Colts, but with Tom Coughlin and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Norwell, a free agent after spending four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, will sign a five-year deal worth $66.5m with $30m fully guaranteed.

Either way, missing out on Norwell is a blow to general manager Dave Gettleman and the Giants, who expected to sign the All-Pro and begin retooling their disastrous offensive line.

What will make the task of rebuilding the offensive line through free agency particularly hard for the Giants this year, is that there is such a limited crop of players available and teams are flush with cap space which could drive the market up even further.

At the guard position, ex-Titans' Josh Kline could be an option for the Giants, but Tennessee is in talks to keep the 28-year-old in house.

Patriots free agent left tackle Nate Solder is another big fish on the open market, but there is stiff competition from the likes of Denver, Houston and New England.

"Norwell represents Gettleman's greatest hit as GM in Carolina, as he has ascended from undrafted free agent out of Ohio State to All-Pro status in a contract year in 2017", wrote Stapleton on Monday morning.
