Managing director David Brabham - the 52-year-old youngest son of three-time F1 champion Sir Jack Brabham, said: 'I am thrilled to announce Brabham BT62 as the name of Brabham Automotive's first project.

The company has confirmed that its new vehicle will be shown in May following a "rigorous and extensive engineering programme", which is now said to be reaching its completion.

Brabham insists that its auto is more than a vanity exercise - the manufacturer says that its new BT62 has already been through an extensive engineering programme and is close to the end of an intensive testing process shortly before its global reveal, which takes place on Wednesday 2 May.

It suggests that the model, the exhaust note of which can be heard in the clip below, will be extremely hardcore and potentially track-focused.

The recently formed Brabham Automotive has announced it will bring a new race auto to the track, set to be revealed in two months. Having declared previous year that he wanted "to see the name back on track" a new auto, named the BT62, is apparently close to reveal, having already undergone a "rigorous and extensive engineering programme".

A few of the historical "BT" cars which are most notable include the BT7, the first Brabham to win a Formula 1 race, and the BT19, the first auto bearing its driver's name to win a world championship.

As revealed by Autocar past year, a Brabham racing re-entry that followed the launch of a vehicle brand would mirror a strategy employed by McLaren Automotive. Little is known about the current road vehicle project, but all will hopefully be revealed on 2 May.

This case is a little different, however, given that the man behind the vehicle you hear below is in fact David Brabham, son of Sir Jack and himself a former F1 driver and Le Mans victor. But the Force India team revealed its 2018 F1 challenger earlier this month, quelling any links to a takeover.
