Fatal joyride: 2 killed, 3 hurt in Hudson Lane

Diksha Dadu, the 19-year-old law student who was allegedly driving the vehicle during a joyride that resulted in the death of two of her friends in north Delhi on Sunday, had four times the permissible limit of alcohol in her blood, the police said.

The incident took place early on Sunday, when the students were returning after attending a fest at Amity University. "The permissible alcohol limit for driving is 30 mg per 100 ml of blood", said Aslam Khan, deputy commissioner of police (northwest).

The police said the deceased have been identified as Ritesh (20) and Siddharth (19). The officer added that alcohol bottles and plastic disposable cups were found in the wreckage. "The i20 was moving at high speed from Vijay Nagar area to Kingsway Camp when the auto driven by Diksha lost control and hit the central verge before knocking down a traffic signal". The woman in the driver's seat managed to pull herself out, but the others were trapped.


Deputy Commissioner of police (North west-Delhi) Aslam Khan has reported to media that accuse Diksha (19) was driving the white colour i20 vehicle and moving at high speed, she eventually lost the control at T-point and auto strike the central verge before knocking down a traffic signal. Siddartha, a resident of Pitampura, was doing graduation from Maharaja Surajmal Shiksha Sansthan, Janakpuri, while Ritesh Dahiya hailed from Sonipat, Haryana and was studying BSc second-year at Venkateshwara College, Dhaula Kuan. Localities who were present at the spot told police that the high-speed vehicle tumbled down the road for few meters. The three girls, including the driver, sustained injuries. The vehicle was being driven by one, Diksha Dadu at the time of the accident.

They added that accused Diksha Dadu initially tried to mislead the police by concealing her identity and address. We suspect they were under the influence of alcohol. When the locals reported the matter, the bodies were so badly tangled in the vehicle that the body of the auto had to be cut to pull the injured out. "The accident occurred around 2.45 am when Rashi was going to drop Sidharth and Ritesh in Mukerjee Nagar". They were also admitted for treatment and are yet to overcome the trauma. The incident happened at Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar on Sunday.
