Quarterback Case Keenum, who guided the Minnesota Vikings to the brink of the Super Bowl last season, is expected to sign with the Broncos when free agency opens Wednesday, according to several reports.

However, with the Vikings one of the major contenders for Kirk Cousins' signature, Keenum has been looking to cash in on his status of last year's stellar campaign and the Broncos look to be his landing spot.

Keenum's ascent in 2017 was remarkable to watch, and hopefully that's the guy the Broncos are getting at a reported $18 million per year average on a new contract. Brock Osweiler is a free agent and isn't expected back with the Broncos. Just a few months later, he'll be taking his talents to the Denver Broncos. ESPN reported Case Keenum plans to sign with the Broncos when free agency opens Wednesday.

Keenum worked with former Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak, now a senior personnel advisor in Denver's front office, with the Houston Texans from 2012-13 having joined as an undrafted free agent.

The Broncos also considered Kirk Cousins and had some discussions about Teddy Bridgewater, who was a teammate of Keenum's this past season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Only the winless Cleveland Browns threw more interceptions than the Broncos' 22, and Denver had just one receiver catch more than 50 passes and finish with more than 560 yards receiving - Demaryius Thomas with 83 catches and 949 yards.

At the National Football League scouting combine this month, Elway said, "we'll continue to look at all of the options out there when it comes to quarterback".

Elway insists the Broncos can get right back into the playoff picture with the right quarterback and tweaks to other areas of the roster.

"I still think we're not too far away, " Elway said. There were some things that we should have done differently that we didn't do.
