Manchester United make bid for Lewandowski

Five-time Bundesliga title victor Lewandowski has proved he can rise to the big occasion, and United reportedly lead the chase for one of Europe's most sought-after finishers.

With Karim Benzema's stock continuing to plummet thanks to the Frenchman's return of just four goals in 22 La Liga appearances this season, Real are in the market for a new forward - and that need has only been made more pressing by the issues between Zinedine Zidane and Gareth Bale.

The 30-year-old told the official Bundesliga website: "That would be something great, something special".

"When you're at a club as big as Bayern, you know everyone in the squad wants to play and is looking for a place in the team, so you must always try to do your job on the pitch as well as possible so that the team wins".

With 23 goals in 24 league appearances, the Polish superstar has been breaking scoring records for fun and it will be interesting to see where he will be plying his trade next season.

Elber, who has lost his record as Bayern's highest-scoring foreign star to the 29-year-old , believes such talk is an obvious effect of having one of the finest forwards on the planet on your books.

In an interview with AZ, the 45-year-old went on to say, "This shows that Cristiano Ronaldo is not stupid". The teams resemble each other in their way of playing.

If Bayern are tempted to do business, they may use United's interest to bump up the price for Lewandowski.

"But Bayern have been warned and Lewandowski feels very settled with his family in Munich. I hope and expect that he stays with us for a long time".

Bayern are now preparing to play Besiktas in the second leg of their last-16 tie but with a 5-0 advantage from the first fixture, the German giants are already looking forward to bigger tests. He does that, and also in the Champions League.
