The Mercer women's basketball team will meet Georgia in Athens in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This will be the second time that the Bears play the Bulldogs this year. The Bears and Dawgs will play the rematch on Saturday, 1:30 at Stegeman Coliseum.

Georgia handed Mercer one of its only two losses of the year.

Georgia defeated Mercer 72-54 during the regular season in Macon.

The victor of the UGA-Mercer matchup will play the victor of the Duke and Belmont game in the second round on either March 18 or 19.

Head Coach Susie Gardner, a UGA alum, said she was delighted to play Georgia again, though not for the reason one might expect.

"I still want to coach and coach at a place where we can have some success", Fox said Sunday. "Not because we're playing Georgia again so much, but I wanted our fans to be able to travel with our team, because we travel so well, and they're such unbelievable Mercer fans and I wanted them to be able to drive up the road".

Gardner said she didn't care about who the team was playing, but rather, that they were playing close to home.

"When you coach against the guy that you played for, it's a little bit different. We can't believe we're in this, '" Gardner said.

Georgia has now been selected to participate in 33 of 37 NCAA tournaments, a total that is second nationally to Tennessee for most NCAA tournament appearances.

The Bears were given a No. 13 seed after winning a program-record 30 games. The last time the Bears lost was November 24 to Western Kentucky, the game after their loss to Georgia. Mercer is now riding a 27-game winning streak, with its last loss a 67-62 defeat to Western Kentucky on November 24.
