According to the American vehicle giant, the new ST will deliver the "most responsive, engaging and fun-to-drive Fiesta ST experience ever".

Using witchcraft and fairy dust, the ST's 1.5-litre three cylinder turbocharged engine delivers 197bhp and 214lb ft of torque, firing the ST from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 144mph. Launch control allows the auto to haul itself from a standstill to 60 in 6.5 seconds, a half of a second sooner than its predecessor, and soldier on to a top speed of 144 miles per hour.

Ford has shed more light on the new Fiesta ST hot hatch ahead of its European launch.

Thanks to the optional Quaife LSD, the Fiesta ST will go faster through corners.

"We've tuned the all-new Fiesta ST's mechanical LSD option to work seamlessly with enhanced Torque Vectoring Control to deliver the best possible natural traction without burning away excess torque with brake interventions", explains Leo Roeks, the director of Ford Performance in Europe, about the 200-horsepower ST.

The engine also features cylinder deactivation technology, making the new Fiesta ST up to 11 percent more fuel efficient than the previous-generation Fiesta ST200.

Moving on to the new force vectoring springs, these are said to improve the stability, agility, and responsiveness of the Fiesta ST's twist-beam rear suspension.

Ford say that will give you sharper turn-in, works with the normal dampers, doesn't compromise comfort or ride quality and saves weight.

Leo Roeks, European Ford Performance director, said: "Hot-hatch drivers are expecting big things from this small auto". The Torque Vectoring Control system, on the other hand, reduces understeer and improves road-holding by braking the inside front wheel during cornering.

Fiesta ST 2018 comes in three different trim and equipment levels - ST-1, ST-2 and ST-3 - and a plethora of exterior paint options and the typical ST styling monikers.

"We've applied what we've learned from recent Ford Performance models including the Focus RS and Ford GT to develop an all-new Fiesta ST that sets a new standard for driving fun in its segment, with a throaty three-cylinder soundtrack that will speak to petrol-heads whatever their language".
