The full 8.1 update was indeed waiting there for our own Ryne, who has an Essential Phone on the 8.1 beta.

At the end of January, Essential announced that it would be skipping a full release of Android 8.0 Oreo, instead going straight to 8.1.

Android Oreo includes a bunch of new features, such as improved notifications, battery life, and lots of other low-level features to improve stability and the overall experience of the OS. After a few months running an Android Oreo beta program, however, Essential is finally rolling out a build to all its users.

If you've got an Essential Phone, what are you looking forward to the most with Android 8.1? Check your phone now for the update. Have you received the update?

Its interesting to see that it also brings March security patch and a fix for the scrolling jitter users have complained about. It's around 1,015MB if you're coming from 7.1 Nougat.
